Correction - The New York Times article about Ken Blackwell (10/17/06 - see below) was misleading. Blackwell never ordered Strickland off the ballot and that was never even likely. Rather, a complaint about Strickland's residency was raised and Blackwell's office would have to rule on it. This raised the possibility of Blackwell taking action, but apparently the law was pretty clear regarding Strickland's residency and it all went away. And the Winner Is ... Me, New York Times, October 17, 2006

Voters in Ohio can be forgiven if they feel they have been beamed out of the Midwest and dropped into a third-world autocracy. The latest news from the state's governor's race is that the Republican nominee, Kenneth Blackwell, who is also the Ohio secretary of state, could rule that his opponent is ineligible to run because of a technicality. We'd like to think that his office would not ultimately do that, or that if it did, such a ruling would not be allowed to stand. But the mere fact that an elected official and political candidate has the authority to toss his opponent out of a race is further evidence of a serious flaw in our democracy.

Must see!!! Moyers on America: Is God Green? PBS

This documentary highlights the growing schism among evangelicals over care for the environment. For readers of this website Moyers' program makes a subtle distinction between Creation Care evangelicals and dominionists. Creation Care evangelicals interpret tthe word "dominion" from Genesis of Hebrew Scriptures to mean stewardship over God's creation ie the environment. Dominionists interpret the word to mean dominion over society.
